Hey Paul! Really cool site with lots of insightful info! I did my undergrad at UCDavis too! I graduated 2 years ago, still have no clue what I really want to do, so I just bought a one way ticket to Europe and will quit my job in January. I guess you can reference that back to the recently posted, “what do you do when you’re scared shitless” blog. I am scared because I have no idea what’ll happen or really where I am going; but once I am on the journey I know it’ll be worth it. I am in the process of building a travel blog and then I just read this blog and I couldn’t help but laugh to myself. Another reason to be scared shitless! But it’s what I want to do and it’s what I will do. Much luck to you in your endeavors!

All – thanks for the amazing support! On the days where nothing seems to be going right I can come back here and reread all the great comments knowing that my story resonates with people because we’re all in the same boat together. It helps to keep me moving in the right direction.

Brad – I agree with you in a sense but as Alex has taught us, I am focusing on developing valuable content and a following before I attempt to monetize. Don’t chase the money because if you do, no one will follow. When I say I quit my job, I did – but I have money set aside for a few months and am not opposed to getting a small side job to help pay the bills if I don’t start making money in the next few months. I am in this for the long haul and know that it’s a marathon and not a sprint. But all the same, good advice – I know the form and function of my first product and am looking forward to putting it out there soon

If you just quit your job,
you need to ge on creating your own product/service asap,
so that you’ll have income coming in.

And you may need to create up to 3-5 products
before you start real seeing success
You’re a smart guy, – listen to what people want on forums,
and create a product on their wants.

On reading your post, the part about your journey through IM reminded me of my own: lots of tries an little results.
But I see a big difference too: Burning your ships to your old job was a very brave thing to do. That’s a courage to envy!

Congrats on making the change Paul. I am getting ready to do the same thing, and while it can certainly be a scary thing to think about, you know regardless you will be better off for it. Looking forward to reading more about what happens
