Blogging SUCKS!
So I admit it. I suck as a blogger. To have a “successful” blog, there are just way too many rules that I don’t follow. Or worse, I spend too much time and effort stressing over rules that are, in fact, pretty irrelevant to what it is I want to accomplish with my blog. I know I’m not the only one and that most bloggers struggle with this same problem. But I’ve reached a breaking point. Blogging has stopped being fun and has become a J.O.B. that not only sucks but a J.O.B. that doesn’t even PAY!
So I have two options – adapt and change my approach to make it fun again or throw in the towel. Considering I have made a tremendous amount of progress in the three months that I have been doing this, I would hate to give up and lose the momentum that I’ve gained. But what is it that I’m actually shooting for here? I’ve spent the last few days re-evaluating why I am blogging in the first place… Read the rest of this entry »
Man vs. Debt Guest Post

What’s up, everybody?
Just a quick heads up that I was chosen as one of the five guest post participants for Man vs. Debt this week. My article, Rocky Balboa’s Guide to Kickin’ Ass, went up on Friday so if you haven’t had a chance to read it, swing by and let me know what you think. It’s about Rocky Balboa so how can you can’t go wrong
Man vs. Debt Readers
Hello to my new friends at Man vs. Debt and thanks for stopping by my blog! I won’t bore you with long introductions or lengthy diatribes here (trust me, there are plenty of those throughout the site) but just a quick note on who I am and what I write about: Read the rest of this entry »
How Do YOU Handle Being Scared Shitless?
“Always do what you are afraid to do.” -Ralph Waldo Emerson
Today is a big day for my blogging buddy Sean Ogle at Location180.com. In his newest post, “My Last Day,” he talks about quitting his job and striking out on his own. But in this post, Sean talks about something that I think we all struggle with, especially when we actually make the leap to “blaze our own paths.”
We are filled with excitement and motivation and we revel in the freedom of exploring the opportunities that come our way. But we are also filled with trepidation, fear, and anxiety and we sometimes second-guess our decision to make the leap.
I am asking for your help. I want to create a discussion in the comment section below with answers to the question, “how do YOU handle being scared shitless?”
We ALL have our fears and worries, especially when we make the leap to take control of our own path. My goal here is to generate a discussion that will help those of us who are just getting started or who are on the brink of making that jump.
I would love to hear from everyone but especially from those who have already made that leap of faith. How were YOU able to push through that fear?
Thanks, everyone, and I can’t wait for the responses!

Beer Networking
“More business decisions occur over lunch and dinner than at any other time, yet no MBA courses are given on the subject.” -Peter Drucker
Would you believe me if I told you that I grew my online business this last weekend without once connecting to the internet? What if I told you that I not only built my business without internet access for the last four days, but I did so while going out to eat at great restaurants, smoking fine cigars, throwing back a few beers, and sneaking into the bar to catch parts of the weekend’s football games? Sounds a little too good to be true, right?
It’s not. I can assure you, I may not have been doing “work,” but I WAS working it… Read the rest of this entry »
Maintaining Momentum When You Have No Motivation
Blazing your own path isn’t always a walk in the park. We all get stuck in ruts that threaten to derail our forward momentum. But how can you fight through the obstacles and keep the ball rolling when you lack the motivation?
This is a quick video post that highlights one little trick I used last week to “snap” out of it. Have a great weekend!

Kaizen | A Business Model or a Way of Life?
“I would tell young people to start where they are with what they have and that the secret of a big success is starting with a small success and dreaming bigger and bigger dreams…” – John Johnson
Kaizen is a Japanese word that is literally translated as “improvement” – nothing more, nothing less. However, given the common practice in Japan of labeling industrial or business improvement techniques with the simple word, “kaizen” has taken on a whole new meaning to the English-speaking world.
Essentially, kaizen has become descriptive of a business philosophy in which the model is to focus daily on small, incremental improvements in every facet of a business. Every individual, from the head of the organization to the worker bee, is responsible for their own kaizen. Over time, these incremental changes not only add up individually, but collectively they lead to compounding and exponential results in improvement.
While this is a great model for business (as has proved to be the case over and over again in Japan), I think it’s an even better framework that you can use to dramatically improve your life… Read the rest of this entry »
Effective Note Taking
“I admit that Post-it note sheets that adhere to virtually any surface are now my substitute of choice for retention.” -Candice Bergen
I like to read, I read a lot, and I read EVERYTHING. Books, newspapers, magazines, blog posts, cereal boxes – you name it, I read it. When I don’t have a book or magazine handy (which is rare), I read internet articles on my phone. I even read the apartment guides and tray liners at McDonald’s when nothing else is handy.
I really enjoy reading – I use it as a tool to learn and a tool to escape. But over the last few years, my all-out assault on the written word has taken it’s toll. I have been struggling to retain what I read. To be honest, with all the material I bombard my sponge with it’s amazing that ANYTHING sticks. So, it’s not surprising that I began seeking changes.
